The House of Nivak is a small, growing collection of thoughtful stays across India, founded and run by Nivedita. Every home is shaped by its landscape, described honestly and looked after personally. The first is Rivara, a riverside studio in Siolim, Goa.
I started The House of Nivak for a simple reason: I wanted to stay in places that felt like they belonged where they were.
Too many stays look the same wherever you go. The same grey sofa, the same wide-angle photographs, the same promises that don't quite survive check-in. I wanted the opposite: homes that take their cue from the landscape around them, that are honest about what they are, and that are looked after by someone who cares how your morning goes.
Rivara, in Siolim, is the first. It sits beside the river in one of Goa's calmer villages, and every corner of it was chosen to feel calm, warm and easy: deep green velvet, warm walnut, crisp white linen, a balcony for slow mornings, and a handwritten note waiting when you arrive.
The House of Nivak is mine to run, and I run it the way I'd want a place run for me. I keep each listing true to its home, I answer your messages myself, and I would rather open one home done properly than ten done quickly.
My vision is a house of homes across India. Not a chain, and never a copy: a home in the hills, a home on the backwaters, and places I haven't found yet, each with its own story and the same care. I'll open them one at a time, and only when they're ready.

The House grows slowly on purpose. A home joins it only when it could only be where it is, when it’s ready to be the kind of place we’d want to stay ourselves, and when it can be looked after with the same care as the first.

What we hold to.
Six rules, and not values on a wall. Each one decides something real: what goes in a room, what goes in a listing, and what we leave out.
- 01Belong to the place.
- Each home takes its cue from its landscape, its weather and its pace. No borrowed themes, no copy of the last one.
- 02Root it, lightly.
- Local light, materials and rhythm, used with a light hand, never as decoration.
- 03Mind the small things.
- Good linen, warm light, a proper kettle, a desk that works and a note at the door.
- 04Tell the truth.
- The listing says what the home is. The stay should meet it, or beat it.
- 05Keep it calm.
- Comfort through space, quiet and warmth, never through anything loud.
- 06Care for what's around it.
- Sorted waste, lights off when you leave, sand left at the beach. We ask, gently.
